Making Kids Laugh Is My Favorite Pastime

Hello! My name is Scarlett Palhof, a children’s author based in York, Maine. My journey into writing began over 30 years ago when my children were young. Inspired by their experiences and joys in life, I started crafting stories about them. Initially, I believed that getting published would be easy. Boy, was I wrong! My early attempts were met with numerous rejections. However, my stubborn determination pushed me to try again, and this time, I succeeded.

My personal mission is to create stories that children find meaningful and hilarious. I love making kids laugh with the sheer silliness of my tales.

My writing style is quite quirky. I enjoy taking everyday situations and turning them into something very silly. For example, one of my stories is about a seagull who hates getting his feet wet.

My target audience is children aged 4-7 years old. Since kids at this age often cannot read by themselves, I also aim for parents to find my books fun to read aloud, with a touch of quirkiness and valuable lessons.

Some authors who have greatly inspired me include Jan Brett, with her incredible and beautiful illustrations; Dr. Seuss, whose rhyming skills are simply amazing; and Tomie de Paola, whose books I loved reading to my own kids.

I would love for my readers to sign up for updates on my books and share their thoughts on them. I aim to make my website engaging and personal, reflecting my endearing, caring, thoughtful, and quirky writing style.

Join me on this delightful journey, and let’s share some laughs together!
